Case study: Cape Town
A balcony above the boulders
A double-storey under the Peninsula's granite slopes, with a first-floor balcony that needed cover, but not darkness, and nothing that would corrode in the sea air.
The roof we built mixes solid white IBR sections with bronze-tinted polycarbonate, so the balcony keeps its light while losing the glare, and downlighters are built in for the evening. Charcoal frame, glass balustrade untouched, every fitting marine-grade.

How far do you travel from the Fisantekraal factory?
Across the Peninsula and the Winelands as standard: Bellville, Durbanville and Brackenfell on the doorstep, out to Camps Bay, Hout Bay, Constantia, Fish Hoek and Muizenberg, north to Blouberg and Table View, and east to Somerset West, Strand, Stellenbosch and Paarl. If you are further out, ask anyway. The Southern Cape branch covers George, Knysna, Mossel Bay and Plettenberg Bay.
Will it survive the south-easter?
That is the question that decides the specification. Spans, fixings and supports are worked out for the wind exposure at your address in line with SANS 10160 wind-loading principles, which is why a Blouberg job and a Constantia job of the same size are not the same structure. It is also why we measure on site rather than quoting off a plan.
Does salt air affect an aluminium awning?
Not the way it affects steel. Aluminium does not rust, the colour is baked into the metal rather than sprayed on top, and the fixings are specified for coastal work. That is the whole reason most of what we have installed on the Atlantic seaboard is aluminium.
Is the quote free, and does someone actually come out?

What it costs
About R3 500 a square metre
Nobody in this trade likes publishing a number, because no two jobs are the same size. Here is ours anyway: in 2026 a made-to-measure aluminium cover works out at roughly R3 500 per square metre. An adjustable louvre roof sits at the upper end of that, because it is a working mechanism as well as a structure. A fixed cover sits below it. Four things move the figure.
Size and bays
The area you want covered, and how many roof bays or gear-operated banks of blades it takes to cover it, is the biggest single factor in the quote.
What it fixes to
Fixing to a wall or a fascia costs less than a freestanding frame standing on its own posts and footings.
Gutters and downpipes
Longer runs and extra downpipes add material and time. Ours are built into the beam that holds the roof up, not bolted on underneath it.
Access
A ground-floor patio goes up faster than a balcony that needs scaffolding. Most patio covers are finished in a day.
