Freestanding aluminium carport with a charcoal powder-coated frame and cream IBR roof sheeting over a paved driveway

Aluminium only — never steel or shadenet

Aluminium Carports

The same baked aluminium roof we put over patios, engineered to stand over your cars instead. It will not rust, it never needs repainting, and it is made to your measurements in Cape Town and Johannesburg.

What it actually is

Our patio roof, standing over your cars

A carport from us is the same system as our fixed patio covers: pre-painted, baked aluminium IBR sheeting on a powder-coated aluminium frame. Nothing about it is improvised for the driveway. It is measured, made and fitted the way we build everything else.

Freestanding on its own posts and concrete footings, or fixed against the house and tied into the existing roofline. Single, double or wider, with the beam and post sizes worked out for the span rather than picked off a shelf.

  • 10-year guarantee on materials, 1 year on workmanship
  • 23 baked-on colours, all the same price, so it matches the house
  • Our own teams measure, manufacture and fit — no subcontractors

Why aluminium

It cannot rust, so it never needs painting

This is the whole argument. Steel carports rust — slowly inland, quickly anywhere near the coast — and rust means scraping, priming and repainting every few years, or replacing the structure altogether. Aluminium does not corrode, so the finish you sign off is the finish you keep.

Baked-on colour rather than sprayed paint means it holds up to Cape Town southeasters and Highveld hail without chalking or flaking. Rainwater goes through a proper fascia gutter and downpipe instead of sheeting off the edge onto the car and the paving.

Why every one of our structures is aluminium

Before you enquire

We build aluminium carports, and only aluminium

Most carport enquiries in South Africa are for steel or shadenet, and those are not what we do. We would rather tell you that now than take up your afternoon proving it.

✓ Aluminium carports

A powder-coated aluminium frame with baked aluminium IBR roof sheeting, freestanding on its own footings or fixed against the house.

✓ Single, double or wider

Made to your measurements, with translucent polycarbonate panels let into the roof if you want daylight rather than a dark driveway.

✗ Steel frames

They rust, they need repainting every few years, and they are a different trade from ours.

✗ Shadeport & shadenet

No shade-cloth carports, and no PVC or timber structures either.

  • If you are pricing a steel or shadenet carport, we are the wrong company. There are good installers who do that work, and we are not one of them.
  • If you want a structure that outlasts the car under it, that is exactly what we have been making since 1988.

From a customer

What it is like to deal with us

“My carport and awning look fantastic and are built to a very high standard, both in terms of materials and craftsmanship. It's refreshing to deal with a company that delivers both quality and integrity.”

Graham Dawson Google review

“We are based in Fish Hoek and have had to tolerate many fierce winds. Our awning which runs from the flat to the main house has been redone due to the old one blowing off during the last major storm we had. Albert came out, did the measurements and quote, and his amazing team of men installed the awnings over 2 days with such professionalism.”

Planning your carport

What we look at when we measure

A carport is mostly structure, so it is specified for your driveway rather than ordered from a catalogue. These are the things your consultant works through on site.

Bays & span

One car, two side by side, or a longer run. The clear span between posts decides the beam sizes and how the frame is built.

Freestanding or attached

Fixed to the house it shares the existing structure; standing on its own it needs its own posts and concrete footings.

Height & clearance

Bakkie, SUV or a roof box changes the working height, and so does the fall needed to run water off the roof properly.

Roof sheeting

Solid baked aluminium, or aluminium with translucent polycarbonate panels let in where you want daylight rather than a dark driveway.

Drainage

Our fascia gutter with concealed downpipes, positioned so water leaves the driveway instead of pooling where you park.

Surface & access

Paving that has to be lifted for footings, a sloping driveway, or a tight side entrance all change how the install runs.

  • Engineered for South African wind zones. Spans, fixings and footings are specified for your site's wind exposure in line with SANS 10160 wind-loading principles. Documentation for estates, body corporates and commercial sites on request.
  • Estate and body-corporate friendly. We have worked through plan approvals and aesthetic guidelines many times, and we colour-match to the scheme.
  • Free on-site quote, measured at your home by a consultant and confirmed in writing, with no obligation.

What it costs

About R3 500 a square metre

Nobody in this trade likes publishing a number, because no two jobs are the same size. Here is ours anyway: in 2026 a made-to-measure aluminium cover works out at roughly R3 500 per square metre. An adjustable louvre roof sits at the upper end of that, because it is a working mechanism as well as a structure. A fixed cover sits below it. Four things move the figure.

Size and bays

The area you want covered, and how many roof bays or gear-operated banks of blades it takes to cover it, is the biggest single factor in the quote.

What it fixes to

Fixing to a wall or a fascia costs less than a freestanding frame standing on its own posts and footings.

Gutters and downpipes

Longer runs and extra downpipes add material and time. Ours are built into the beam that holds the roof up, not bolted on underneath it.

Access

A ground-floor patio goes up faster than a balcony that needs scaffolding. Most patio covers are finished in a day.

  • The figure above is a guide, not a quote. A consultant measures your space and puts a firm number in writing, free and with no obligation. That is the only number worth planning around.

On the record

Some of it we can show you on paper

Every awning company will tell you it does good work. These are the four things about ours that somebody else wrote down.

Voted best awnings in the country

Readers of The Star put us first in the Best Awnings category of their annual Your Choice poll, published 30 May 2007. Independent Newspapers confirmed it in writing: ballot one, first position.

The man home YARD asked

When home YARD magazine ran a feature on adjustable louvres in 2018, the advice printed beside it came from Albert van Wyk — who started this company and still runs it.

The Nelson Mandela Foundation

We built for the Nelson Mandela Foundation in Houghton in 2001. We still have the paperwork.

Thirty-eight years of it

Albert started in a garage in Kempton Park in 1988. Some of the installers who arrive at your house have been with him since close to the beginning.
