Aluminium awning installation by AL Patio Solutions

Where it all started: 1988

Awnings Johannesburg

This business began in a Kempton Park garage in 1988, and Johannesburg is still home turf. Our Roodepoort branch measures, manufactures and fits across the whole metro, from Soweto to Sandton.

AL Patio Solutions awning installation in Johannesburg Hail-belt engineering

Built for highveld weather

Why Johannesburg homes choose us

Johannesburg is glorious outdoor country with a violent streak: months of perfect braai evenings, punctured by four o'clock thunderstorms and the hail that writes off bonnets every summer. Awnings here aren't decoration. They're armour that has to look good.

Everything we fit in Joburg is engineered for exactly that: baked-aluminium blades and sheets that shrug off hail, frames anchored against storm gusts, and gutters and downpipes sized for a real cloudburst instead of a drizzle. And because the factory is local, made-to-measure means days, not weeks.

  • 10-year guarantee on materials, 1 year on workmanship
  • Our own teams measure, manufacture and install
  • 23 baked-on colours, made to match your home
Charcoal adjustable louvres over a hedge-clad commercial frontage with original steel factory windows Project spotlight

Case study: Johannesburg

Louvres over a working frontage

A city venue with a hedge-clad façade and original steel factory windows needed its outside seating to survive a Joburg summer. Anything clumsy would have wrecked the look the owners had built.

We fitted charcoal adjustable louvres overhead on a slim frame that sits quietly against the brickwork: open for morning light, angled against the midday glare, sealed when the afternoon storm arrives. The outside tables now work the whole season.

What it costs

About R3 500 a square metre

Nobody in this trade likes publishing a number, because no two jobs are the same size. Here is ours anyway: in 2026 a made-to-measure aluminium cover works out at roughly R3 500 per square metre. An adjustable louvre roof sits at the upper end of that, because it is a working mechanism as well as a structure. A fixed cover sits below it. Four things move the figure.

Size and bays

The area you want covered, and how many roof bays or gear-operated banks of blades it takes to cover it, is the biggest single factor in the quote.

What it fixes to

Fixing to a wall or a fascia costs less than a freestanding frame standing on its own posts and footings.

Gutters and downpipes

Longer runs and extra downpipes add material and time. Ours are built into the beam that holds the roof up, not bolted on underneath it.

Access

A ground-floor patio goes up faster than a balcony that needs scaffolding. Most patio covers are finished in a day.

  • The figure above is a guide, not a quote. A consultant measures your space and puts a firm number in writing, free and with no obligation. That is the only number worth planning around.

On the record

Some of it we can show you on paper

Every awning company will tell you it does good work. These are the four things about ours that somebody else wrote down.

Voted best awnings in the country

Readers of The Star put us first in the Best Awnings category of their annual Your Choice poll, published 30 May 2007. Independent Newspapers confirmed it in writing: ballot one, first position.

The man home YARD asked

When home YARD magazine ran a feature on adjustable louvres in 2018, the advice printed beside it came from Albert van Wyk — who started this company and still runs it.

The Nelson Mandela Foundation

We built for the Nelson Mandela Foundation in Houghton in 2001. We still have the paperwork.

Thirty-eight years of it

Albert started in a garage in Kempton Park in 1988. Some of the installers who arrive at your house have been with him since close to the beginning.

From the file

Letters people sent afterwards

Albert has kept these since the nineties. Nobody was asked to write them, which is why they all say roughly the same thing about the installers rather than the awning.

“I am thrilled with it and the wonderful effect it has on the look and atmosphere of the living area of my home … your team were very efficient, and respectful. They got on with their work without intruding on my privacy. They also cleaned up nicely when they left.”

Connie Meyer Letter, 2011

“I want to congratulate Dan & his team for doing such a good job on my new parking awning. It's a very neat & professional job and most of the residents in my complex … it's beautifully done & looks so good.”

Mrs D. R. Bray Handwritten letter · Benoni

“I would like to thank your workmen for the way they installed the awning. They were clean and very expert in performing their work.”

J. F. Whitbread Handwritten letter · Hazeldean

“Thank you for a job well done.”

The Village Safe Haven On letterhead · Buccleuch, Sandton · 2008
